KOBE PARAS got the Philippines a measure of consolation when he won the Dunk Contest of the 2013 Fiba 3×3 U18 Championship Sunday night in Jakarta.
Paras beat silver winner Antonio Morales of Spain and bronze medalist Demonte Flannigan of the United States and Sun Ming Hui of China to take the gold in the side event.
Paras, who plays for La Salle Greenhills in the NCAA, became known for his dunking prowess when he made a dunk during LeBron James’ recent trip by the Miami Heat star in Manila.
Reports from Jakarta as well as videos posted on social media showed Paras emulating one of James’ dunks during the qualifiers, doing a between-the-leg lob off the backboard and slamming it with two hands behind his back.
But the highlight for Paras in the competition was when he dunked over a motorcycle with one of his teammates in the Philippine team on it.
Paras advanced to the finals when he scored 30 points to top the qualification pool last Saturday,
The Philippine 3×3 team missed the quarterfinals after losing to Czech Republic and the United States in their final preliminary matches last Saturday. »
